Yuma Hospital District #1 exists solely to benefit the greater Yuma community – a region that stretches from eastern California to the western Sonora desert with a hospital to care for people throughout region.
The Yuma Hospital District #1 is a rare though vitally important creation of the federal government.
Since 1973, the District has owned both the land under the Yuma Regional Medical Center and the buildings that make up the campus. With more than 400 beds, the Medical Center is a vital component to southwest Arizonans in need of health care.
The District’s five-member board is made up of volunteers elected by residents in the Yuma County. The Board oversees the district’s operations and, as memorialized in several agreements with the Medical Center, advises and considers substantial improvements to the land. Meet the District’s five members here.
State law mandates the District must lease the property to a non-profit entity that operates as a hospital.
For decades, The District Board and the Medical Center worked together to bring the best medical care possible to the area.
